On Thursday the 7th of May the southern district health board Will be considering outsourcing our hospital food services in Southland and Dunedin hospitals to compass group, who has together with Health benefits Ltd proposed a national model for all hospital kitchens nation wide on a 15 year contract. This model sees food being trucked in from many 3rd party suppliers across the country and meals on wheels delivered to hospital kitchens in the form of frozen tv dinners - ready to be reheated and dispatched to the residents. We believe this is an outrageous proposal and a have a large list of concerns including job loss and potential compromise to patient safety.
