Petition summary and background On the 9th of September 2014 the Southborough Town Council voted to close the Royal Victoria Hall Theatre on January 5th 2015 and instructed staff to take no further bookings from this date. The future of the RVH is bleak as the Southborough Town Council are now pursuing an option for the redevelopment of the land surrounding and including the RVH which will be demolished as a result.
Action petitioned for We are asking STC to reverse this decision and to keep the RVH theatre open until the designs for the re-development of the area referred to as the “Southborough Hub” have been published and approved. We strongly urge STC to pursue a development option that includes retention of the RVH auditorium and performance space and NOT to proceed with an application to demolish this valued, historic, community asset in its entirety.
