Long Term Visa (LTV) is granted to the Pakistani spouses of Indians living in India. It requires renewal every year; it allows them to travel outside India once a year, though this requirement is occasionally waived. A Pakistani spouse must take permission from the police before leaving India, and must on her or his return report to the police. Severe restrictions imposed on internal travel include securing the consent of the police and report to them on their return even for a weekend getaway. The LTV is city-specific: if the Pakistani’s husband is transferred to another city, she cannot follow him there; her shift will have to wait until the LTV is reissued naming the new city of residence.
