Make Bitterne Triangle pedestrian friendly!

The Issue

We want Southampton to be an enjoyable place to live and visit. Making part of Bitterne Triangle a pedestrian zone at weekends would make it a nicer and safer place to be for the local community - including families - and for visitors. This would in turn support local businesses.  The air quality would also be improved.

In thriving cities such as Brighton (pictured), certain streets are pedestrian zones at weekends. This creates a 'buzzing' atmosphere as people browse the interesting local shops at their leisure.

At the moment, the central part of the Triangle is underused. With part of the road closed, this area could become like a cafe square in Paris or a park. A place where people sit and socialise, and children can play.

We would like the East section of the Triangle to be closed at weekends, say between 10am and 7pm. This would allow for weekday commuters and local business deliveries. The bus route would be unaffected.

Although this area contains parking, most of the local residents are within walking distance of the Triangle. Parking would still be available along the rest of Manor Farm Road and on Whitworth Crescent and Bond Road.

Please help us to make this area a more pleasant place for everyone. Thank you.
