Dear supporters,

You haven't heard from us in a while, but we've been working at the state level for the past few years to try to ban offensive Native American mascots statewide, and we have some exciting new to share!

Rep. Jarrod Lowery, the only Native American legislator in the NC General Assembly, has introduced legislation, HB 655, which would ban offensive American Indian mascots in public schools across North Carolina. We are grateful to Rep. Lowery for his leadership on this issue and for the North Carolina Commission on Indian Affairs and the State Advisory Council on American Indian Education for their work with us over the past two years to get to the point of introducing legislation. Read more here.

We need your help! Please amplify our efforts by:

  • If you're a North Carolina resident, please send an email to your state representative asking them to co-sponsor HB 655. This link allows you to send an email in one minute or less. After using the email action page, share it on social media or share with your friends to help us generate more emails!
  • Follow us on Facebook and Instagram and help us reach new people by liking, sharing, and commenting on posts.
  • We are seeking volunteers (particularly those with experience in social media, communications/PR, or organizing); if you are interested in volunteering or joining our leadership team, email retiretheredraider@gmail.com.

We look forward to keep you updated as we work to get this bill passed so that not only the South Point Red Raider but ALL offensive mascots in NC are retired!
