SAVE TOTNES - THE ANCIENT MARKET, GARDENS AND CAR PARKS ARE UNDER THREAT OF DEVELOPMENT

Totnes is an ancient, beautiful, thriving town, which is very proud of its weekly 14th century market. We are famous throughout the South West for the vibrancy and colour of our market and tourists, on whom our town depend, flock to it as well as locals who use it for their weekly shop.
It is now under threat, as is all of our town, by the decision of planners in South Hams District Council to include our market, our five main car parks, our community garden, Leechwell and our primary school in the new Local Plan. If left in the Plan, all of these areas could be built on. South Hams Council are looking to build 70 houses on the square and car parks as well as commercial units. This would destroy Totnes - we could have no central parking, no green space, no market. The Council own the land in the centre of Totnes and can stop its sale. It cannot be allowed to go ahead.
