Dear friend of Saving Southern Heritage, In a 'slap in the face' to Southern-American Floridians, Sen. President Joe Negron, the "Mitch Landrieu of Florida" brought up a sneaky, unrecorded voice vote on SCR 1360, Thursday...during the week of observances of Confederate Memorial Day in Florida. SCR 1360, if approved in the House, will complete the purge of Gen. Edmund Kirby-Smith from representing Florida in Washington, DC, begun with the passage of Senate Bill 310 last year. This was an end-run around our friend, Sen. Dennis Baxley, who blocked the original bill in the Senate. Now, SCR 1360 has been sent to the Florida House for action. Rep. Scott Plackon, like Sen. Baxley, blocked a similar purge bill in the House, but this is a new threat, and Speaker Corcoran has the power to kill it, if he wants to. Corcoran is a veteran, and a fiscal conservative, so he has grounds to oppose it on several levels. IF the expenditure to replace Gen. Smith gets put in the budget, and SCR 1360 is adopted by the House, no further action will be required to effect the removal of Smith.
