Policemen, State Official, and a Professional Hunter Part of Alleged Rhino Horn Dealing Gang?
A notorious, ex South African Policeman who is also an alleged rhino horn kingpin, Dawie Groenewald, was arrested with Professional Hunter, Schalk Steyn, whilst allegedly transporting 19 rhino horn. They were granted R50 000.00 bail each in the Nelspruit Magistrates Court in July 2021.
In October 2021, a government official from the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment Conservation and Tourism, Stephen Maqoboza and ex Policeman Motsami Wells Masigo were arrested in connection with transporting 17 rhino horn, they were also granted bail of R50 000.00 each.
On Wednesday the 9th October 2024, Stephen Maqoboza, Motsamai Masigo, Dawie Groenewald and Schalk Steyn appeared together in the Nelspruit Regional Court.
The matter has been postponed until January 2025.
