The partner shelter of SVAS is sent out transports to the “north” last week. Bringing Heartworm positive animals to a place that has a very low case load of these parasites is irresponsible. Heartworm is spread by infected animals by mosquitoes. This parasite is also very expensive to treat. 

Please make sure you are protecting your pets by getting the preventative from your vet!
