Sammamish Residents Make Your 1 Billion Dollar Contribution Count and Alleviate Traffic

Sammamish Residents Make Your 1 Billion Dollar Contribution Count and Alleviate Traffic
The Issue
Sammamish residents are spending about 1 Billion Dollars to fund Sound Transit over the next 30 years without receiving much in return. This is an absurd amount of money and Sammamish is not even slated to get light rail as part of the STP3 package. A light rail station and parking garage has been slated for operation in 2024 only 1.2 miles from Sammamish Northern Border in Southeast Redmond's Marymoor Area right behind Whole Foods. This area is being re-zoned by Redmond as High Density Residential and access to this station will be even more cumbersome and difficult to access for Sammamish residents than it currently is today. The City of Redmond, King County Parks and Sound Transit are listed as having design input for the Southeast Redmond Station. The town of Sammamish doesn't even have seat at the table although they are contributing 1 Billion Dollars toward Sound Transit and the City Border is only 1.2 miles away.
This petition is to create a new access road off of East Lake Sammamish Parkway as far South as Possible and go directly through Marymoor Park and into the newly planned parking garage at the light rail station. Such an access road would bypass long morning backups already present at the intersection of East Lake Sammamish Parkway and Redmond Way. As presented in the September 5th City Council meeting by creating such an access road, a vehicle could travel all the way from the Center of Sammamish directly into the Light Rail Garage without ever needing to go through a stop light! This petition also seeks to make sure the Parking Garage at South East Redmond station is sized sufficiently to Accommodate Sammamish Residents.
Whether you support light rail or not, a Billion Dollars of Sammamish Tax Payer Money is going to Sound Transit so lets get something in return. Creating a bypass road through Marymoor Park alleviates traffic in keeping vehicles off of Sahalee Way and keeps vehicles from sitting in traffic for long periods of time on East Lake Sammamish Parkway. Either way you pay, so lets do all we can to alleviate traffic and get our money’s worth by letting those who want to use light rail have easy access to it.
