On July 3, 2026, Sony President and CEO Hiroki Totoki sold 225,000 Sony shares, valued at approximately US$4.73 million, according to a publicly disclosed SEC filing. The sale occurred just days after Sony reportedly announced plans to transition all new PlayStation game releases to digital-only beginning in 2028.

While there is no public evidence that the share sale was connected to the announcement or that any wrongdoing occurred, the timing has raised concerns among many PlayStation players and consumers. At the same time, Sony's reported move away from physical games threatens consumer choice, game preservation, true ownership, and the ability to buy, sell, lend, or collect physical copies.

Through this petition, we call on Sony to provide greater transparency about its long-term plans and to preserve physical game releases as an option for PlayStation players. Consumers deserve the freedom to choose how they purchase and own the games they pay for.
