Hello All,
Well, a lot has happened since we last contacted our SVCG members and it’s about time we updated everyone on the latest developments.
The good news is that this past October 1, the city council voted to allow the outdoor cultivation of three cannabis plants. Together, the three may not take up more than 50 square ft of space, must be more than 10 feet from any property line and cannot be visible from the street or from adjoining properties. Currently, state law allows for six plants to be grown outdoors, but this can be addressed at a later date.
The bad news is, well, there really is no bad news.
There is more good news on the dispensary front, as well. This past November's election changed the make up of the city council. The re-election of Mayor Pro Tem Amy Harrington (now Mayor) and Councilwoman Rachel Hundley were welcome outcomes. But we would also like to congratulate newly elected councilman Logan Harvey (now Mayor Pro Tem). His election has shifted the balance of the council toward the development of a reasonable cannabis ordinance that would include one or two dispensaries. Logan Harvey has been a long-standing member of our group and we're very gratified to have another progressive voice on the council.
Now that we've gotten past the holidays and the swearing in of council members and they've had a chance to acclimate, there is much new business at hand, including the dispensary issue.
The council added commercial cannabis to its 2019 agenda and the process will begin at its upcoming meeting this Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 177 First Street West, Sonoma.
You can see the Agenda here.
Our participation is important, so we hope to see you there!
And don’t forget to keep checking in with us on our Sonoma Valley Cannabis Group Facebook page for all the latest developments!
Sincerely.
