Somerset Young Carer Service is at threat of closure
We ask Somerset County Council to reconsider and choose to continue funding Somersets Young Carer Service.
Somerset County Council's estimates there are at least 1750 Identified Young Carers in Somerset which is a fraction of the actual number of Young Carers in Somerset.
These Young Carers Juggle their education, their Social life's, and their friendships to care for family members, we believe that by caring for family members Young Carers save Somerset County Council more money than the cost of the services they receive from Somerset's Young Carer Service.
We believe that Somerset County Council has dramatically underestimated the impact the closing of The Young Carer Service will have on the Young Carers and their families.
Somerset Young Carer Service provides -
• 1:1 support to Young Carers during difficult times
• Group activities and respite opportunities *
• Promoting awareness and recognition of the needs of Young Carers
• A Young Carers Network/Forum
*Many of these group activities are funded by donations from local charitable organisations.
Somerset County Council is offering the voluntary/Community sector £30'000 seed funding to run a Young Carers Service we do not believe a suitable/sustainable service can be achieved under these circumstances.
Please take time to sign this petition, Somerset County Council need to continue funding and supporting Somerset Young Carers.
