Hi All,

I wanted to let you know that we now have over 500 signatures on this petition. Thank you so much for your support! Here are some more details about the petition and what we are aiming to achieve.

BACKGROUND

Sodexo, a food service provider serving schools, university dining halls, hospitals, and office buildings around the country, is under fire for supporting some of the cruelest factory farming practices. The company promised its clients and consumers that they would “[uphold] the highest standards of corporate responsibility” and end these horrific abuses. Yet, the company hasn’t made adequate progress toward fulfilling these promises.

CHICKENS

  • Sodexo was one of the first companies to adopt a set of standards for meat chicken known as the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) in 2016. Six years later, the company has not even demonstrated how it plans to make progress toward this goal.
  • While others in the industry have reported progress and incremental goals, Sodexo declined to share a roadmap to achieving standards of the BCC, either publicly or privately, citing membership in various industry groups who have interests in animal welfare commitments. We have concerns Sodexo is hiding behind its involvement with industry groups to delay meaningful action.

PIGS

  • Sodexo originally promised to get rid of gestation crate pork by 2022. While Sodexo publicly acknowledges the goal has not been met and needs to be readjusted, the company has yet to publish a new timeline for completely removing gestation crates from its pork supply. As a step in the right direction, Sodexo recently established annual goals to source more reduced crate pork with a goal of reaching 100% reduced crate by 2025.
  • Because reduced crate (or, as Sodexo refers to it in its latest update, “free-to-roam”) pork is still produced by confining mother pigs in crates, we call on Sodexo to set more concrete targets for eliminating crates completely.

Sodexo’s failure to live up to its responsibilities harms the millions of animals suffering in its supply chains, misleads consumers, and puts its clients’ reputations at risk.

The multi-billion dollar company has been profiting off empty promises to its clients for years. But together, we can demand corporate transparency and make meaningful changes for millions of animals.

Would you help me get more signatures by sharing this petition with ten other people on social media? Facebook groups, SMS chats, Twitter, email and WhatsApp all work great. If more of us sign, we can’t be ignored!

Thanks again for supporting this cause.
