The Olympic Games are a series of events in which every country sends their best athletes to participate. The Olympic Games do not discriminate against anyone of any race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
Any country that participates in the games, should not have to worry about the safety of their athletes for any reason. The Olympic Games should be a place where the would comes together in harmony for healthy competition.
Currently, the 2014 Winter Olympic games are to be held in Russia. Recently, Russia has passed an Anti-Gay Bill in which "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations" (i.e. propaganda from "the gays") is illegal. This will result in arrest by the Russian Government.
A Russian lawmaker has said the ‘gay propaganda’ law will remain enforced during the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014.
This endangers all tourists, as well as athletes for the games.
After the United States repealed DOMA, equal marriage in both France and England the rest of the world is moving forward and Russia is openly discriminating against a large group of individuals.
I am not one to ask much of people, but when it comes to my safety and the safety of others someone must speak up. We CAN NOT let Russia endanger any tourists or athletes who have worked so hard to get where they are today.
Vancouver is both ready and willing to host the 2014 Winter Olympics lets speak up and see what the Olympic Council has to say.
