Hi everyone,

This is Charles Bakker, Rachel's husband. Thanks to you, our petition to make our roads safer has now reached over 2,000 signatures! As a result, I have begun to reach out to those in office in the hope that real change can begin to take place.

In the meantime, however, motorists continue to blatantly disregard the rules of the road, as can be seen in this picture taken in front of my house just last Thursday. In fact, in the week following Dante's death, my neighbours and I watched FOUR vehicles blow through extended bus signs, and there does not seem to be any indication that things are getting better.

While it is easy to point fingers, the first step to making our roads safer is to change our own driving habits. I will admit that I too was one of those drivers who sped constantly, and who quickly grew irritated whenever I was delayed by congestion. But as a parent, I have seen firsthand how this same impatient behaviour puts lives at risk. So that is why I have now changed how I drive.

Thank you again for all of your support. And please know that Rachel and I are not going to let this rest until meaningful measures have been put in place to make our roads safer.
