1,000 VOICES — NOW THE NEXT STAGE BEGINS

🇰🇳
1,000 PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN
Our petition concerning the proposed Destiny Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) on Nevis has now reached 1,000 signatures.
We want to thank every person who signed, shared, discussed and supported this campaign.
1,000 signatures represents 1,000 reasons why the people of St. Kitts and Nevis deserve to be properly informed about a project that could have profound long-term consequences for Nevis.
This milestone is not the end of the campaign.
It is the beginning of the next stage.
🇰🇳 FROM PETITION TO PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY
When we launched this petition, our central concern was transparency.
Since then, there have been significant developments.
The Federal Government has confirmed that the Destiny proposal has undergone “fundamental project changes” and “meaningful revisions.”
Four major Federal issues were identified during the review process.
The proposal has subsequently been subject to further consideration involving the Federal Government, the Nevis Island Administration and the Independent Oversight Committee.
Yet the public has still not been given a clear account of:
What changed?
What were the four Federal issues?
How were they resolved?
What safeguards were introduced?
What does the revised proposal now look like?
These are reasonable questions.
And they become even more important as pressure grows for the project to move forward.
🟢 WE HAVE RECEIVED AN ASSURANCE FROM THE PREMIER
We also received a direct response from Premier Mark Brantley concerning this petition.
The Premier assured us that the legislative process would be followed “scrupulously”.
He stated that the process includes:
“sharing any Agreement with the general public”
and parliamentary oversight in both the Nevis Island Assembly and the National Parliament.
He also invited petitioners to provide their comments when the Agreement is released.
We welcome that assurance.
And we intend to take him up on it.
The achievement of 1,000 signatures means that we now have a clear public mandate to continue doing exactly that.
🔴 OUR NEXT STAGE: THE 1,000 VOICES SUBMISSION
We will now move from petition mobilisation to formal public accountability.
We intend to present the concerns represented by these 1,000+ signatures to the relevant governmental and parliamentary institutions.
Our submission will ask for clear answers to five fundamental questions:
1. WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE DESTINY PROPOSAL?
What stage of the Federal and Nevis approval process has been reached?
2. WHAT WERE THE FOUR FEDERAL ISSUES?
The Government has confirmed that four major issues were identified.
The public should know what they were and how they were resolved.
3. WHAT FUNDAMENTAL CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE?
The Government has described the changes as fundamental and meaningful.
We are asking to see what changed.
4. WHEN WILL THE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT BE PUBLISHED?
The Premier has stated that the Agreement will be shared with the general public before parliamentary consideration.
We welcome that commitment.
We will be watching for its publication.
5. WILL THE PUBLIC HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO SCRUTINISE IT?
Publication alone is not enough.
For a project of this scale, citizens need sufficient time to examine the Agreement, understand its implications and provide informed comments before parliamentary consideration.
🇰🇳 THIS CAMPAIGN IS NOT ANTI-DEVELOPMENT
We want to make this clear.
We recognise that Nevis needs investment, employment, infrastructure and sustainable economic opportunities.
Our campaign is not opposed to responsible development.
We are asking whether a project of this scale can proceed with:
Transparency.
Accountability.
Environmental responsibility.
Constitutional safeguards.
Proper independent scrutiny.
Meaningful public participation.
These principles should not be controversial.
📢 1,000 SIGNATURES IS A PUBLIC MANDATE
The Government has asked us to allow the process to work.
We will.
But allowing the process to work means being able to see it, understand it and participate in it.
The 1,000 people who have signed this petition are not asking for special treatment.
They are asking for the opportunity to understand a proposal that could affect the future of Nevis for generations.
The Government has said the Agreement will be made public.
The Government has said there will be parliamentary oversight.
We welcome those commitments.
Now we ask Government to deliver them transparently and in full.
🇰🇳 1,000 VOICES. ONE MESSAGE.
LET THE PEOPLE SEE THE PROPOSAL.
LET THE PEOPLE EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE.
LET THE PEOPLE HAVE THEIR SAY BEFORE DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
Thank you to every one of our 1,000+ supporters.
This campaign has reached an important milestone.
But we are not stopping here.
The petition has given us a voice.
Now we use that voice.
