As of today, Monday, Sept. 18, we have received no response from the Hill principals on our petition. We will be following up this week.

In the meantime, there are two opportunities to get involved in supporting migrants & asylum seekers on Staten Island and holding local officials accountable this week.

  1. TONIGHT, Monday 9/18, there is a rally at Egbert Triangle on Willowbrook Rd. starting at 6 pm. The event is co-sponsored by SI DSA, PSL, ANSWER, and Peace Action of Staten Island. This event is not directly affiliated with our petition but will be a great opportunity to hear from local activists and show your support for migrants & asylum seekers in our community. Please consider showing up!
  2. Tomorrow night, Tuesday 9/19, is Community Board 2's monthly meeting. CB2's district includes Arrochar, where Hill and Villa are located. We are hearing that there will be a significant anti-migrant presence there, so the more voices, the better. Unfortunately, attendance is only in-person; there is no remote option. The meeting is set to start at 7 pm at the JCC on Manor Road. Please consider attending and speaking up during the public session (no more than 2 min. per speaker) to highlight our petition's demands for CB2 and call for more resources to support migrants & asylum seekers, the community, and the school. You can submit your statement for the record here (note that the form says 'webinar registration,' but again, there will be no webinar - only in-person attendance).

THANK YOU all for your continued support!
