Save Lewisham's Baby Cafes
This petition had 970 supporters
The birth of a baby is a joyous occasion, but it brings with it many challenges, and breastfeeding often proves to be one challenge that cannot be overcome without a great deal of support. Families in Lewisham currently benefit from a service which offers them emotional support, information and practical help, at a time when they are vulnerable and often feel they have nowhere else to turn. Many women who have experienced the challenges of breastfeeding feel so strongly that no-one should have to struggle alone, that they give up their own time to train and volunteer as breastfeeding peer supporters in Baby Cafes all over the borough. They are willing to do this to fill a gap in the current healthcare service because they care passionately about the health and wellbeing of mothers, babies and the entire community. They do it for free. All that is required to provide this service is funding for basic running costs. This funding is now under threat, but if we let everyone know how much we value this service, and the key role that it plays in supporting families in our community, perhaps there is a chance that it can be saved. Please make your voice heard and sign.
