Petition updateSingle-Use Plastic Bag Ban in the City of Edmonton

Update - Meeting with City Councillor and Officials

Michael KalmanovitchEdmonton, Canada
6 Feb 2018 — UPDATE: We met with a City Councillor and several City officials over the last few weeks to discuss our request for a single-use bag bylaw. During those meetings we were told that a motion will be made at an upcoming City Council meeting requesting a report on the various options to address single-use bags. We expect a report to be presented to Council by the summer. City Council will then have to decide how best to address this issue. We are encouraged by the City’s willingness to look into this issue further, but the big looming question is what action (if any) they will take based on the report. As such, we will continue to press City Council to take meaningful action by enacting a bylaw that will be effective in significantly reducing the use of single-use bags in Edmonton. In the interim, you can help this campaign by writing, calling, or emailing Mayor Don Iveson and your City Councillor to let them know that you support a single-use bag bylaw in Edmonton. You can find your City Councillor here: https://www.edmonton.ca/…/city_organi…/city-councillors.aspx. If you haven’t already done so, you can also sign the change.org petition available here: https://www.change.org/p/single-use-plastic-bag-ban-in-the-…. We thank you in advance for your help. The more constituents that demonstrate support for our request the more likely it is that council will move on this issue. We will continue to update you as this campaign progresses. Please feel free to reach out to us with any question or offers of support you may have. Thank you!
