Despite being used ubiquitously across different media, not many know that the famous Gandhi quote applies to military forces as well.
It is known fact that armies around the world have been left scrambling in the wake of burgeoning technological advancements in artificial intelligence and are pouring millions into research that may give them added edge in the battlefield.
What is not realized by most, however, is that modern warfare isn’t just about fighting robots or smart computers. Modern warfare is also psychological.
The case is outlined as such: Imagine you’re a soldier advancing towards enemy lines and you decide to pop out your phone to check Instagram because you’ve got some time between waiting for cover fire and reaching the next bound. You open the gram and the first thing you see is the Drake meme saying that you don’t wanna fight no war and that you’d rather be home asleep. You’re like true shit, that’s some REAL TALK so you start tagging your homies in the comments and they all be whipping out their phones cause wtf why the fuck we fighting for. And then bam 1, 2, 3, 4 all your homies shot in the head cause they weren’t covering fire.
Now imagine you were the enemy and your enemy were the insurgents getting distracted by your memes. You laugh to yourself because in the heat of the moment they didn’t notice the post was Sponsored and sponsored by who? The SiNGAPORE aRMeD FORcES.
That’s right folks. Memetic warfare is the next big thing.
Think about it, we’ve been doing this for centuries dropping propaganda leaflets behind enemy lines. The real fight is psychological.
