The EPA has confirmed that air quality samples taken from May to July 2018 contain potential cancer-causing VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) that "exceed the allowable limits." This is on the heels of a privately-funded air quality study presented to the community this past May indicating that the community is being exposed to high levels of another potential cancer-causing pollutant known as PM 2.5 (metal dust). Prior to this new information from the EPA, the City's Department of Public Health has maintained that General Iron operated in compliance with the law. Where does the City now stand?
