#FreeTurkeyJournalists is no longer just a hashtag. It has a life of its own.
IPI has created the platform #FreeTurkeyJournalists to highlight the true stories and faces of the journalists who are in jail in Turkey for doing their jobs. https://freeturkeyjournalists.ipi.media/
The #FreeTurkeyJournalists platform is an effort to promote and defend free expression in Turkey by calling for every journalist accused of a crime to receive due process and for the release of anyone detained for practicing journalism.
The platform is intended to show the extent of Turkey’s crackdown on journalists by uploading the cases of individuals who have been detained and who face criminal charges. It will serve as a call for Turkey’s government to produce solid evidence supporting any accusation that a journalist has engaged in criminal activity and to release all journalists who are in prison because of their work.

Check the website periodically, as we will be continuously updating our news on Turkey!

This is not the only activity we have been working on these last few weeks. We have been busy organising our second mission to Turkey, to visit government representatives and try to visit imprisoned journalists in Silivri prison. You will have a full report on this in the next few days!
Also, On February 22, IPI IPI organised together with Presseclub Concordia a solidarity event in Vienna entitled “Turkey’s Media Under Siege”, where journalists and media lawyers from Turkey discussed current threats and challenges to journalism and freedom of expression in their country, and the potential impact of international solidarity and pressure by NGOs, governments and the EU.
Human rights and press freedom organisations, Austrian MPs, lawyers, and journalists from the main Austrian media outlets attended and covered the event and solidarity act to #FreeTurkeyJournalists.
