Aug 6, 2021

Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and continue to amplify this message. In "The Latest from Linda," Linda G. Levy, the President of The Fragrance Foundation said, "We strongly request the term ‘oriental’ be eliminated, as it is outdated and offensive. While there have been historical references for many years, and other areas outside the USA have not yet changed, “oriental” as a fragrance category or descriptive is no longer appropriate or respectful in the USA."

Last week, "The Council of British Society of Perfumers have made a decision to stop using “*riental” as a fragrance descriptor with immediate effect and urges its members to do the same.

The decision was taken because the term is perceived as Eurocentric and as such is both outdated and derogatory. We have been advised that other societies are adopting the term “Amber/Ambery” to replace *riental. We do not wish to prescribe what terms should be used as replacements as long as the replacement is made."

July 19, 2021, one of the largest fragrance suppliers, "CPL Aromas gives a fresh look to its Fragrance Mapping system - aligning it with the language recommendations of Fragrances of the World

CPL Aromas, the leading independent and family-owned fragrance house, has undertaken a revamp of its Olfactive Mapping. A job 12 months in the making, this work will reflect the knowledge and efforts of CPL Aromas’ perfumers, evaluators and experts in the industry, and will guide the company’s mapping and creation efforts moving forward.

Importantly, the work undertaken is in line with the recent unveiling by Fragrances of the World® by Michael Edwards, and completely does away with the term Oriental in its many forms, replacing it with Amber."

WE ARE THRILLED ABOUT THESE UPDATES!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!
