Dear Signatories
Your voice is needed in this critical moment to engage all 193 UN Member States to push for a UN General Assembly resolution that calls for an immediate ceasefire in Israel and Gaza before the scheduled Emergency Special Session on Palestine this Thursday, October 26th starting at 10h00am EST.
Jordan, on behalf of the Arab Group of UN Member States, has introduced a draft resolution to be voted on in the UN General Assembly, which largely reflects many of the asks in the civil society open call for an immediate ceasefire that you all endorsed.
We encourage you to take the following actions before Thursday:
· Share the CeasefireNOW advocacy messaging with governments and Member States to highlight the urgency to call for an immediate ceasefire in the UN General Assembly – email / message / call your Ministry of Foreign Affairs, your political representatives, and your UN ambassador.
· Share the petition with Member States to demonstrate wide support for a ceasefire. Please find the translated versions of the CeasefireNOW petition in English, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Arabic, Turkish and Hebrew.
· Tag target Member States on social media in support of the humanitarian asks. Please find here digital assets that can be used to amplify your calls on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
· Use the suggested Tweet below, tagging your President, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, UN Ambassador, and influential policymakers.
o TWEET: Hundreds of thousands around the world call for a #CeasefireNOW to protect civilians. Your government has the responsibility to act and call for an immediate ceasefire in Israel/Palestine! https://chng.it/dHqmwcDXDZ (Tag the policymaker here)
The call has received over 560 endorsements by civil society organizations in more than 75 countries and the Change.org petition has garnered more than 320,000 signatures in the first few days – and still counting.
While a UN General Assembly resolution is not binding, it is still an important tool signaling global support for a #CeasefireNOW to facilitate many of the critical humanitarian demands in the open call.
Many thanks for your continued support
