Flight Operations in Mysuru Airport

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

The Mysuru Airport, with a runway of 1740 meters, 26 staff that includes 9 Fire Safety Officers equipped with 4 Fire Engines, a Power House of 1500 kv capacity maintained by 9 engineers, and a competent staff of 8 who run the fully equipped Airport, is sadly non-functional since 17 Nov 2015.

The Airport is at par with major International Airports of India with All Night Landing Facilities that include Approach Lights and Runway End Lights, State-of-the-art X-ray Machines, full-fledged automated operations Tower and well-trained State Police guarding 24x7.  The Airport, which has been operated by SpiceJet and Indigo before, was last used commercially by Air India between September 3rd and November 17th of 2015.

Since then, though operations have not been conducted commercially, Starting from our Hon. Prime Minister to VIPs ranging from the Hon. President of India for the inauguration of JSS Hospitals, His Holiness Dalai Lama for the Convocation at the University of Mysuru, the Defense Minister- Sri Manohar Parrikar, Sri Baba Ramdev, Imam-e-Haram of Mecca, Saleh bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Aal Taalib, Muhammad Yunus- the Winner of Nobel Peace Prize from Bangladesh, the Vice President of India for the renowned Jamboree and many such delegates including the Chief Minister(Karnataka) and Sri Ganapathi Sachidananda Swamy have used and been using the Airport for both personal and business travel purposes.

The feather to its cap however is the successful transport of currency from Mysuru’s BRBMNPL to every city of the country post-demonetization. As the whole country was in fear, Mysuru played a top-notch role and the Airport played a significant part, hosting all planes of all sizes and all payloads, ranging from C-130 Hercules and C-70 Globe Master, day-in and day-out. Almost 90 tonnes of payload worth over Rs. 4000 crores was transported, and all successfully.

As per the research and reports submitted by leading experts in the fields, six factors contribute to the success of the Airport. These factors are as follows (not necessarily representing the order of importance):

·         Population of a City

·         Demographics

·         Education Facilities

·         Environment

·         Tourism

·         Industries

Mysuru, with a population of 15,00,000+, with different age group, is a city with 600+ Educational Institutions supporting the education of lakhs together children, the Cleanest City, the city with 30,00,000 number of Tourists visiting every year and a great revenue to Mysuru.

The Airport is at a convenient distance to the city of Mysuru and the industrial estate of Nanjangud. Thousands of people travel in and out of these areas and a Film City is also planned in its vicinity.

As per the newsfeed an airport will be up by September 2017 at Kannur, Kerala (Kannur International Airport). Usually the tourists where travelling via Mysuru to the other parts of tourist destinations like Coorg & Wayanad. If Kannur Airport starts its operation, then the tourist flow will skip Mysuru & visit Coorg, Ooty, Wayanad and other places directly from Kannur. So it becomes important to start with operations here, before the Kannur airport.

An operational Airport can serve tourists where our revenue generation increases due to direct connectivity with different places. Hotel Industry (450+ of hotels in city) and Travel Industry is also a major sector were the revenue adds up and boosts the value of our city.

Mysuru serves as the hub for Yoga, Healthcare, Education, art forms and rich culture and history. Thus we observe huge inflow of foreign tourists and the flight operations in Mysuru would mean more convenient and hazel free travelling to them.

One of the major attributes is IT companies at Mysuru where only Infosys having more than 11,000 employees, Wipro Ltd consisting of more than 3,000 employees and other companies like Larsen and Turbo, Excel soft were thousands of employees working. So by this can imagine the importance of Air ways in the city is much more important.

During your visit to Mysuru before and after the elections, you had promised to Make Mysuru like Paris, but no major development in that direction has taken place yet. Starting operations in airport will be a great step forward in the direction.

I humbly request our Hon'ble Chief Minister to take this issue into your serious consideration and accelerate the necessary developments to ensure the Government's contribution towards the Economical as well as overall progress of your Home Town.
