One year of skatepark advocacy 🤘🛹
Time is flying! Today, our team is celebrating our first year of advocating for the build of a new, concrete skatepark. It all started with Tyler Sims (@jeromest) creating a petition that called for action to be taken toward the decaying condition of our current skatepark. Like many, we were fed up with seeing the cracks get larger and the ramps rust away. The place we grew up, spending countless hours at, has become increasingly un-skateable.
The petition results said it all. We scheduled a meeting with our local parks department, providing over 1200 signatures and hundreds of statements in support of this plan. The Bedford Parks department listened to our concerns and welcomed the strategic plan we had prepared. Our foot was in the door and we were ready to shake some sh”t up!
Since then, we’ve had continual meetings, shared our mission with the mayor's office, continued to get the word out, and have met several milestones along the way. Our next step is gathering community data and presenting our project to the Bedford Recreational Foundation, where a vote will take place and ultimately secure the projects first source of funding.
We still have a long road ahead, but it’s without a doubt that this project wouldn’t be possible without you, our community. We’d like to thank everyone who’s supported us this far, and hope to make this exciting plan a reality!
