Stop The Billboards!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Stop the plans to erect two 61 ft. electronic billboards on the North side and one on the South side of Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays.

As residents of the Town of Southampton, we enjoy the beauty of our Town and take great pride in our environment, which offers lush woods, beautiful waterways and the quaint communities in which we live.

But the large illuminated Billboards that are being erected on Sunrise Highway threaten to damage our cherished way of life. When completed, they will be a jarring sight to those accustomed to viewing our sweeping landscapes, and as residents, we stand together in asking that construction be halted and they be taken down immediately. We are united in our opposition to these billboards.

We recognize the need of the Shinnecock Nation for economic development to better the lives of its members.  We also recognize that the Shinnecock Nation believes these lands to be sovereign and exempt from local regulations.

But the Billboards that are being erected on Sunrise Highway are both out-of-character with the community and violate the spirit of our zoning regulations, in particular town height and lighting restrictions. These billboards may distract drivers leading to dangerous accidents on one of our area’s busiest roadways.

We ask that construction of these urban-style Billboards be stopped immediately so that we all may continue to enjoy our small town way of life.
