Dear all It's arrived, today is the day we get to once again shine a light on the issues with the Streets Ahead contract and hold the Council to account for their acts and omissions. We are told "felling is always a last resort", then why are 72 healthy mature highway trees due to be felled in Nether Edge simply because they are disturbing footways and kerbs? We have been told by Julie Dore and Darren Butt that there is no budget to retain the Elm Tree on Chelsea Road. A rare tree of national significance that should be protected at all costs. In a 2.2 billion pound contract, 1.2 billion of which came from public money from the Department of Transport, a range of engineering specifications should have been agreed before the start of the contract. We want alternative solutions to be used and a relaxation of kerbs specifications to retain as many of our mature street trees as possible. The tree survey was totally flawed and undemocratic. We want proper consultation for ALL Sheffield citizens citywide. We want a tree strategy and consistent and proportionate decision making. We want a scrutiny review on the Amey contract and we want to keep the beautiful large crown trees that offer so much and make Sheffield the beautiful green city it is today! These are OUR trees!
