We strongly support creating protected bike lanes on 17th Street between Church Street and Sanchez Street. Many people biking through this stretch of 17th Street have have been forced into unsafe conditions on the Muni tracks and suffered injuries as a result. The existing track configuration is required in order to move streetcars into and out of the Castro, especially during festivals and other events. As such, adding protected bike lanes to the area is the best way to improve safety on this dangerous street.

If San Francisco is to achieve its climate goals and create a safe, livable city, we must prioritize public transit and the safety of people biking over parking spaces. Please approve the protected bike lanes on 17th Street.
