Keep Ceph Rogen in Vancouver - save Ocean Wise Conservation Association
The Issue
We have less than two months to keep Ceph Rogen, the Vancouver Aquarium's star octopus and his 70,000 friends here in Vancouver.
Plans are already underway to re-home him and all of the other Vancouver Aquarium residents elsewhere in North America if the Ocean Wise Conservation Association collapses. Beyond our own sadness at losing Ceph Rogen, moving will cause all of the animals undue stress. For Ceph intramantle inking (basically shooting ink then holding it in) is a real danger.
Ocean Wise relies on earnings from the Aquarium to fund animal care, conservation, and public services and with Covid-19 closures, it's missing out on $3 million a month in revenue.
Here's what else Vancouver will lose unless funds can be raised:
- Canada's only dedicated marine mammal rescue facility - and the team that saves over 150 animals every year
- The sloths
- Education facilities for 20,000 budding marine biologists and future champions of the earth
- The sea otters
- The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, the Ocean Wise Sustainable Seafood program, the Cetacean Sightings Network
- The penguins
- The Aqua Van and it's mobile AquaZone
We're letting people know that this matters to us. If you want to donate as well we have a fundraising team on the Vancouver Aquarium page: https://www.canadahelps.org/s/efnjn
