"Some of you may know that almost fifty years ago my beautiful niece Eloise Worledge vanished from her bedroom on the morning of January 13th 1976. Eloise was born the day before I turned 21. She was the best present I could have wished for and I was asked to be her godmother. She was just 8 years old at the time and I loved and still love her to bits.
On the night of the 12th January, Eloise went to bed in her home like any other night, but when the family woke the next morning, she was missing. In spite of the police investigation lasting many months, she has never been seen or heard from since.
There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle. Police believed Eloise was lured from her bed by someone she knew and simply left the house via the front door, which had been left unlocked. The focus was immediately on the parents, however, over time there has been no evidence to suggest that either were involved.
At slightly different times in the early morning, two different neighbours heard a car door slam and a child cry out. I have been unable to free myself of the thought that this would have been Eloise’s cry for help.
And this leaves us wondering just what did happen on that night in January 1976? Eloise Worledge is still on the Missing Persons list and we are still waiting and hoping for answers.
Fast forward to 2023 when the Victorian Government established a Board of Enquiry into historical child sexual abuse in Education Department schools to which Beaumaris Primary School was central. In 1976. Eloise was to commence grade 4 at Beaumaris Primary school but of course she never made it.
There was limited investigation into the paedophile activity at the school back then but as what happened in the Catholic Church, such teachers were merely moved on, free to continue abusing children at other schools.
The more we learn, the more we realise how many possibilities were never fully explored back then.
On January 13th 2026, it will be the 50th anniversary of Eloise’s disappearance, a very significant and heavy time for our family.
No child should ever go missing without answers. Eloise deserves justice, and with your help, we can ensure her story is not forgotten.
Help us lift Eloise’s profile and with this in mind, I am asking that you share this post far and wide, spread the word among family and friends, talk about her around the dinner table and in the playground wherever you may be.
