Three years since it was started, our petition now has 16,620 signatures, 2,624 petition shares, 188 people have contributed $17,394 to promote our petition, and it was tabled in the Parliament of Victoria in 2022.
Despite a couple of Victorian independent MPs (Stuart Grimley and Rachel Payne) and most recently, Zoe Daniels MP, asking the Victorian government for a response, their silence continues to be deafening.
Our petition is asking the Victorian government to pilot a recommendation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, which would benefit every child and adult affected by child maltreatment.
And as our Productivity Commission has identified, the cost of the provision of timely, coordinated health and social wellbeing services is massively outweighed by the economic benefit to all Australians.
The Australian Child Maltreatment Study found Australians experienced the following prevalance of forms of child maltreatment:
- 39.6% witnessed domestic violence
- 32.0% physical abuse
- 33.3% sexual abuse
- 28.5% emotional abuse
- 8.9% neglect
Childhood maltreatment is also responsible for up to 40% of mental health conditions in Australia.
Our petition honours the memory of Ian Walker and Trevor Foster.

Thank you for your support, please share our petition if you haven't already, thank you.
We will continue to work with members of Victorian and Australian parliament, and other stakeholders, to advocate for the outcomes our petition seeks.
We also continue to engage with Victorian Government departments regarding the implementation of recommendations of the Beaumaris Board of Inquiry too.
