Because the Haines Canyon Debris Basin and surrounding trails are heavily trafficked by hikers, mountain bikers, dog walkers, equestrians, strollers, and nature enthusiasts who arrive to enjoy the wilderness and escape a nearby densely populated city and commercial district;

Because this area has always been used for that recreation;

Because hunters have recently begun hunting in the area posing a serious safety risk to those using the area for recreation;

Because wildlife is attracted to the area since it is the only source of lifesaving water for miles, posing a conservation risk;

We the undersigned petition that the Haines Canyon Debris basin and surrounding trails be designated a no hunting recreation zone
