I'm delighted to share a big moment for this petition. Today, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has confirmed that the scheme whereby scrappage vehicles can go to Ukraine rather than be scrapped, - 'ULEZ to Ukraine', as I have always called it - will go live this coming Friday March 15. 

Khan said, encouragingly: 'There is still plenty of money left in the scrappage fund and I encourage anyone applying to consider donating their vehicle to this cause.'

Vindication for this petition and thank you to everyone who signed it!

Sadiq could have cracked on and done it a year ago when I started this campaign but never mind. We are going to get some vehicles, potentially thousands, to Ukraine. 

Behind the scenes there is intense work to make this happen, by British Ukrainian Aid, the Ukrainian Embassy, other charities and volunteer groups that have strong track records delivering British vehicles to Ukraine, such as the Ukrainian group I work with, Car for Ukraine, and all supporters of Ukraine. 

There is no magic pot of cash, public or private, to pay for any vehicle to be transported to Ukraine, so if you can donate to British Ukrainian Aid (https://www.british-ukrainianaid.org/ or Car for Ukraine (https://car4ukraine.com/ you will be directly supporting the next, enormous phase of this scheme: making it actually happen.

The proof of every pudding is in the eating and until the vehicles have reached their destination in suitably large numbers, we will not be able to declare a success. So the petition will remain open, and also a brilliant way to update everybody. Stay tuned for the next phase.
