Royal Caribbean Ship Spews Toxic Fumes

Here’s the latest in a series of photographs we’ve been collecting showing toxic diesel fumes coming out of cruise ship smoke stacks directly into Acadia National Park. The cruise ship industry does not give two figs for the air quality of the environs of one of the crown jewels of the United States’ national park system. No environmental impact study has been done—still!—to see how this megapier might affect our area—our waters, air and the creatures that live in the Bay and on its shores. At any single day, there can be three of these floating cities out in the harbor, all of whose smokestacks are spewing this stuff. We are asking for common sense limits to the size and frequency of these visits. This is Anthem of the Seas—it can hold almost 5000 passengers and thousands more crew. And it creates sewage and diesel fumes and garbage. And Royal Caribbean has not always been the best steward of environmental concerns. Please share our petition and donate to or promote it. There are many pressing concerns out there in the wide world, we know, but this is our little corner of it, and it’s our job to be the best stewards we can to keep it safe.
