The Issue

Self-expression is an important aspect of a child's development. Creativity reflected on appearance such as makeup, hairstyle, accessories, and other body ornamentation represent individualism and displays a known self identity. Within the academic setting, such forms of expression are important and should not be classified as disruptive.

One primary reason for its importance is the connection between self-perception and academic performance. For many students, personal appearance, including makeup, is a tool for build confidence. When students feel secure in how they look, they are more inclined to focus and learn rather than consumed by self-consciousness.

Makeup does not any reason for it to be disruptive behavior in a classroom. In educational policy, disruption is defined as an action that materially interferes, impedes, or breaks the flow of learning. Makeup is a passive, non-verbal form of expression. It does not produce noise and does not prevent students from accessing educational content. It is only classified as disruptive if it is actively done while classes are ongoing.

The purpose of education extends beyond academics. It includes social and personal development. Schools are tasked with preparing individuals for participation in society, which includes learning to navigate personal autonomy and srlf identity. Allowing self-expression teaches students to make appropriate personal choices while respecting institutional norms.

Self-expression is seen as important because:

1. It's about identity and confidence, not distraction.

2. Learning is not just about academics, but a place to socialize.

3. It doesn't actively interfere with learning.

In conclusion, self-expressions like makeup, hairstyles, outfits, and accessories supports student well-being and engagement, does not inherently interfere with the mission of academic institutions.
