Seek Accountability for Love's Neglect at the San Antonio Animal Shelter
The Issue
Love, an innocent animal resident of the San Antonio Animal Shelter (S.A.A.C.S), tragically lost her life due to an act of profound negligence. She was irresponsibly handed over to known animal abusers. Shannon Sims, the former director, and Michael Shannon, the present leader of S.A.A.C.S, are directly responsible for this severe oversight.
In light of Texas law, HB 598, which was passed in 2023, the directors should have been alert and informed about the history of the adopters. Because of their failure, Love's life was unjustifiably cut short. We are not calling for mere condolences or apologies but for absolute justice and prevention of such instances in the future.
It is shocking that such regrettable instances occur in state-run institutions, where the welfare of animals should be paramount. In Texas alone, over 1.2 million pets are adopted per year (American Pet Products Association), demonstrating the critical need for rigorous policies and protocols in verifying adopter suitability.
We demand a thorough investigation into Love's case and the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such neglect. It is incumbent upon public animal welfare institutions like S.A.A.C.S. to protect the lives they shelter. The heartbreaking fall of Love elicits the urgent need to reinforce the conduct, policies, and regulations of all animal shelters.
This petition seeks justice for Love and better safety protocols for the countless animals in similar facilities. Love's tragic demise should inspire change, ensuring that no other innocent life undergoes the same fate due to human negligence. Sign the petition to join us in seeking justice for Love and improving the operating standards of animal shelters.

I did not know you in your life,I so wish I had ...you would of been so very loved. But I love you so dearly in your death.I think of you often & my heart breaks to imagine what hell you went through at the hands of your abusers....And San Antonio Animal Care Services are not any better than your abusers. To release you into the home of the very people who abused you is totally appalling & unacceptable. There has to be accountability for your pain, suffering & death. I cannot & will not try to pretend it didn't happen. It did happen & I have dedicated the rest of my life to see to it that those responsible will be held accountable & to see that no one ever forgets you.I know it will not bring you back but I can be sure that shelters are not releasing animals into known abusive homes. This must stop.Your death will be an example for shelters to be more responsible to where they are placing animals.Your death will be used as an example for what shelters should NOT do.Many people love you,it's just a shame that you had to lose your life for things to change. But I believe you are in heaven flying free of any pain or abuse. It is not for us to judge, but one day those abusers will be judged by someone far greater than us...
And in your name we will attempt to get a law passed so no other animal goes through what you did,if passed it will be called "Love's Law".
Rest in peace Love you are now our angel.I hope you can feel the love so many have for you & how much you are missed, keep your little light shining for the world to see.It will light the way for those that go on after you.
