After a seemingly productive conversation with security properties, they have agreed that the communication shouldn't have gone out in the way it did and they agree it is not okay to enforce part of a rule, but not all. 

They will also be working on the definitions in the lease regarding premise.

They are also going to issue an email to residents to rectify the communication.  And give additional training to the management around communication with residents.

Until the email is received and all aspects of the rule are enforced, I let them know, my sign would stay up.  I recommend, if you live there, to leave yours up too. 

I have no problem following a rule, if it is clear and enforced fairly.
