Highways England’s planning application for Queensbury Tunnel’s abandonment has been re-advertised due to the infilling of No.2 Shaft last October, carried out under emergency powers and thus circumventing statutory planning processes.
Bradford Council’s legal team has written to Highways England to express the view that the work required planning permission. Either way, it materially changed the scheme as submitted and consultees have been asked for additional comments. It’s now likely to be another three months before the planning committee reach a decision on abandonment.
Fortunately the 6,221 objections already submitted are unaffected, but they will be recorded as applying specifically to the original version of the application. We would therefore like to ask anyone who has not yet objected to do so in order that some objections are lodged to the re-advertised version. We hope that makes sense!
