Brittney Griner's team on Wednesday reached out to Change.org seeking to partner with this petition. In the wake of BG's case recently being reclassified as a Wrongful Detention, her team expressed a desire to join forces -- and add voices -- to this movement, which by May 11 had amassed more than 120,000 signatures.

For those who signed the petition soon after its launch on March 5, you will now notice revised language reflecting both the latest updates in BG's case and the inclusion of the Women's National Basketball Players' Association (WNBPA) as partners. These changes result from the collaborative efforts of WNBPA leadership, BG's legal team, BG's agent, Change.org personnel, BG's wife, Cherelle, and me.

All parties gave their approval.

With the dynamic and history-making women of the WNBA now lending their names, voices, and platforms to this demand for the White House, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris to expedite efforts to win BG's release, I am confident this petition will explode in size. It already has gained traction since players today began signing it. The hope is that our elected officials will feel increased pressure to act with expediency to get BG back on U.S. soil and reunited with her family.

Special and sincere thanks to the early supporters of this petition, without whom this united front would not be possible. I ask that you please continue to make a difference by sharing it with everyone you know, and support women's basketball players in the U.S. by attending WNBA games this season (or tuning in via television or streaming services).
