Thanks to your support, media entities worldwide reported on Brittney Griner's case on Monday and called on elected and appointed officials to speak to her situation in interviews.
Democratic Rep. John Garamendi of California on Monday told CNN that diplomacy between the U.S. and Russia are "nonexistent" right now.
"Perhaps during the various negotiations that may take place, she might be able to be one of the solutions," Garamendi added. "I don't know."
In other words, Griner could be used as a political asset, which would be the best possible outcome in an overall abysmal situation.
Please continue to share this petition!!!
Your efforts are generating attention that Griner's detainment previously did not have.
She is a U.S. citizen and beloved by many. She deserves our assistance, and she is worthy of more than media erasure, Twitter's refusal to amplify this petition despite emailed and tweeted requests, silence from the WNBA, and cereal recommendations from the Phoenix Mercury, who in their sole statement on the matter claimed to love Griner.
Your signing and sharing of this petition helped it to reach more than 20,000 names by the writing of this update! You are all making a difference and I urge you to continue sharing so that we can--above all--return Brittney Griner safely to her family. Nothing else matters but her safety.
On Monday, I spoke about the petition on ABC15 in Phoenix, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and more. Here are some of the stories resulting from both the petition and these interviews:
