Fylde Borough Council agrees to class dad as a "resident"

We have spoken with the CEO of Fylde Borough Council who has confirmed, that given the circumstances of our father's case, they will agree to class him as a resident for the purposes of his funeral. Thus the family will not be charged a premium to bury him in Lytham with mum's ashes.
Although this is a "small win" for the family, and for Hugh's memory, it has been a very upsetting and stressful time for us, having to argue our case against what we see is a nationwide injustice (this situation is happening Nationwide - in some areas they charge a 300% surcharge if you do not reside in the area) - and we would not wish any other family to go through this, particularly at at a time of bereavement.
We are therefore keen to continue the promotion of the petition, in an attempt to highlight a situation that we regard as discrimination.
With the NHS in turmoil, and at a time when many families are struggling to find suitable care for their elderly relatives, it is increasingly likely that more people will find themselves in a similar situation, where they are unable to bury their loved ones "back home" as they have been forced to move away for residential care.
Many thanks for supporting "Hugh's Petition" - it is appreciated.
