I want to thank everyone who signed our petition to bring wheels back to the Green Lake path. Last night, at the Board of Parks & Recreation Commissioners meeting, they voted to return the path to its historic usage - meaning wheels will once again be welcome at the lake! Every Commissioner present spoke in favor of returning wheels, as did Supt. Williams. They also spoke about the large amount of support they received from folks like you, who believe that wheels belong at Green Lake!
Seattle Parks & Rec will be creating a "transition plan" to remove the offensive "no wheels" signs and replace them with signs reminding people of the actual Green Lake Path Courtesy Code and how we can all share the path safely and enjoyably. So it may be a few weeks before the signs come down, but hang in there.
And please, when you do make your wheeled way back to the lake, remember to:
- be courteous and respectful of other users,
- roll counter-clockwise in the outside lane, and
- be especially cautious and move slowly when you are in a congested area.
Pedestrians have had two+ years of walking on any side of the path they chose to, so please be patient as they re-learn the rules which help us ALL enjoy the lake.
Thanks again, and I hope to see you at Green Lake!
