Sources tell us that Mayor Ed Murray doesn’t plan to attend his own meeting on the encampment site in Ballard on Wednesday. Here’s what we can do: 1. Take a minute to call the mayor’s office (206.684.4000) and say you want the mayor to attend his own meeting in Ballard. 2. Go EARLY to the meeting on Wednesday and sign up to speak. Ask this simple question: “Where’s Ed?” I'm baffled by the mayor's proposed no-show. First, he made a decision behind closed doors about siting an encampment on our main street and sprung that secret decision on our community without warning. Then he declined our invitation to attend our community-led meeting last week. And now he is skipping his own meeting? How’s that for an open, transparent and accountable process? If you are as frustrated as I am, please take a second to follow steps one and two above. Then ask your friends, family and neighbors to do the same. More importantly, show up to next Wednesday's meeting! It will be held at Leif Erikson Hall at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12. We'd highly suggest getting there early -- at 6 p.m. -- to sign up to speak. I know for a fact that what we accomplished last week has had a big impact in City Hall. Now we just need to do it again. And ask, “Where’s Ed?” Speak Up Ballard!
