I'm afraid this article fell over before it even reached the end of the first sentence. Much as I respect Professor Sir Tom Devine, I cannot help but have reservations about anyone who posits the existence of a "Scottish Labour Party". There is no such entity. This is no mere semantic quibble. The true nature of British Labour in Scotland was identified by Johann Lamont as the main reason for her quitting as manager of the "branch office". And a major component of the election campaign run by her successor was the transparently dishonest attempt to persuade voters that Jim Murphy is the real leader of a real party making real policy.
