Turn down Transport Scotland's recommendations for lowering the speed limit on the A87 and other rural roads

Turn down Transport Scotland's recommendations for lowering the speed limit on the A87 and other rural roads

The Issue

The recommendations will not make the road safer.  It will have the opposite effect.  Currently, frequent users travel at 60mph as is allowed; many tourists and other infrequent users travel at a much slower speed, causing tailbacks and frustration.

The stretches of road where Transport Scotland want the speed reduced include the few places where it is possible to overtake slow moving vehicles.  If the speed limit is 50mph, more people will risk overtaking when it's not safe and the net effect will be a more dangerous road.

Transport Scotland have been asked by a number of organisations to reduce the speed limit on sections of road which local communities know are dangerous.  They have refused to do that which makes these recommendations even more illogical.

If you object to the proposals, please support this petition.  It would be helpful if you would also object by writing to Director of Trunk Roads and  Bus Operations, c/o Mark Paterson, Buchanan House, 58 Port Dundas Road, Glasgow, G4 0HF, stating your reason for objection, using reference A87/NW/MP before 26th February 2015.
