Hi All
Now that the windfarm Inquiry is over, our attentions will return to our field work activities, although rest assured, we stand ready to act on any new information regarding the windfarm.
We are currently exploring potential new areas and as we posted recently, a wildcat has already been identified in one of these locations. Where there is one there will be others so it’s very exciting times. The hope of a new population is very real.
Also, our very first study areas were in West Lochaber and focussed on the Ardnamurchan and Morvern peninsulas. This is where we created our first safe haven for wildcats by neutering all the domestic cats in the area to prevent the risk of hybridisation. Our team has recently been back up there to reset camera traps and to check if there are any unneutered domestic cats are in the area. Whilst early indications are that there aren’t many unneutered domestic cats, there has been a concerning amount of deforestation. We will provide a full update and pictures of the recent fieldwork shortly.
Now to everybody’s favourite feline, the wonderful Finlay. He is prime condition and we are now in dialogue with the Scottish Government about his future. He is due a vet assessment soon so we will do a full update then.
Finally as promised, here is the link to the digital wildcat adoption packs. If you want us to send an adoption pack for Valentine’s day, to that special person in your life, please click on this link:
