Hi All
Underpinning everything we do is our field work. We get out there into the forests and we find Wildcats. It is only by finding them, that we can protect them and their habitat. We are extremely lucky that our field work is headed up by a guy called Kev Bell. We have introduced you to him before and we call ‘Wildcat Whisperer’ due to his incredible ability to find wildcats. Kev is the person who alerted us to the population of wildcats in the Clashindarroch and that has been the basis of this whole campaign.
As winter is now here and it is getting colder, this is the best time get wildcats on camera, as they are more likely to come in for the mackerel fillets that we use as bait. We have a really important and exciting field work season ahead and Kev has already been out in the forest setting camera traps. What an incredible start he has had had. The cat above was just caught on camera last week ( you can see the date and time) and it is an absolute cracker. Think, blunt, black tipped tail and great body stripes. It also looks like a huge cat. The biggest wildcat we have found in the Clashindarroch was 4 feet long. We think this might come close so we will go and measure the spot and estimate it’s size. We will also rebait in the hope of getting more images and hopefully video.
As we have shown you, there are government departments, companies and other vested interests, who want to convince you that the Wildcat no longer exists in the wild and that the focus should be on captive breeding. In our opinion this is just so that they can destroy its habitat for development. With your help we won’t let that happen.
Look at this cat in the image above, it is magnificent, beautiful and deserves a chance to live and breed in the wild. That is what we fight for and finding and protecting Wildcats like this one, drives us on. What a beauty it is and it’s so exciting to know they are out there.
You can find out more about our work and see videos of these amazing cats in the Clashindarroch, on our website:
