As we highlighted earlier this week, there was a very important meeting held yesterday about the proposed windfarm extension in the Clashindarroch. Our legal team and specialist ecologist prepared for and attended the meeting remotely and presented the case for why this development would be disastrous for the future of the Scottish wildcat in Scotland.
We are delighted to confirm that Councillors have upheld the formal recommendation of their own officers and we are glad that we had the opportunity to raise concerns about the impact on the wildcat population as part of the democratic process. What happens next depends on how the developer, Vattenfall, decides to proceed. If they continue to pursue this development at a national level, in the face of what is clearly very strong local opposition, then it will proceed to public inquiry, where all parties will be able to present the full case before the application is determined.
It is important to note that we have proactively brought the failings in the EIA information to Vattenfall's attention prior to it lodging this application. Vattenfall in turn, failed to address, or has delayed or wilfully disregarded these concerns.
Vattenfall is a Swedish company and this somewhat cavalier attitude to such a critically endangered species would simply not be accepted in respect of its domestic operations in Sweden. And, it should not be here either in the context of the ongoing climate and ecological emergency.
Our legal team are monitoring everything very closely and we will keep you posted on developments as they happen. We are delighted with the current objection to the windfarm, but we are not complacent and will not give up fighting until the application is completely withdrawn.
